Insurer Standards in fire safety
1 May 2017Many structures contact us to find out the cost of installing a water curtain. However, before we can provide a credible estimate, a minimum amount of information is essential to avoid the risk of missing out some very important details.
Water curtains are a special type of deluge system. Flat-jet sprays (drenchers) create a “wall” of water to form an isolating heat shield. They are used in situations where it is not possible to build a fire wall to physically separate two parts of a site. A typical application for a water curtain is the separation between a flammable liquid storage area and a tanker discharge area.
Before we can estimate the budget required for the installation of a water curtain, we need to define:
- the length of the water curtain,
- where to fix the water curtain and how,
- the throughput,
- the water curtain supply (from which source?),
- whether the performance of the source is high enough (otherwise we need to estimate the pump room budget also),
- the curtain activation principle.
The first step in pinpointing the most suitable technical solution and calculating the necessary budget is to contact us for a preliminary feasibility study.
